Feature Flow Fields

چکیده
Feature tracking algorithms for instationary vector fields are usually based on a correspondence analysis of the features at different time steps. This paper introduces a method for feature tracking which is based on the integration of stream lines of a certain vector field called feature flow field. We analyze for which features the method of feature flow fields can be applied, we show how events in the flow can be detected using feature flow fields, and we show how to construct the feature flow fields for particular classes of features. Finally, we apply the technique to track critical points in a 2D instationary vector field.

Feature Flow Fields in Out-of-Core Settings
Feature Flow Fields (FFF) are an approach to tracking features in a time-dependent vector field v. The main idea is to introduce an appropriate vector field f in space-time, such that a feature tracking in v corresponds to a stream line integration in f . The original approach of feature tracking using FFF requested that the complete vector field v is kept in main memory. Especially for 3D vect...

Modern science utilizes advanced measurement and simulation techniques to analyze phenomena from fields such as medicine, physics, or mechanics. The data produced by application of these techniques takes the form of multi-dimensional functions or fields, which have to be processed in order to provide meaningful parts of the data to domain experts. Definition and implementation of such processin...
متن کاملUsing Feature Flow Fields for Topological Comparison of Vector Fields
In this paper we propose a new topology based metric for 2D vector fields. This metric is based on the concept of feature flow fields. We show that it incorporates both the characteristics and the local distribution of the critical points while keeping the computing time reasonably small even for topologically complex vector fields. Finally, we apply the metric to track the topological behavior...
متن کاملTopology Based Flow Analysis and Superposition Effects
Using topology for feature analysis in flow fields faces several problems. First of all, not all features can be detected using topology based methods. Second, while in flow feature analysis the user is interested in a quantification of feature parameters like position, size, shape, radial velocity and other parameters of feature models, many of these parameters can not be determined using topo...
متن کاملMotion Feature Detection Using Steerable Flow Fields
The estimation and detection of occlusion boundaries and moving bars are important and challenging problems in image sequence analysis. Here, we model such motion features as linear combinations of steerable basis flow fields. These models constrain the interpretation of image motion, and are used in the same way as translational or affine motion models. We estimate the subspace coefficients of...
